March 2008Dr. Carlos Franco-Paredes and his colleagues from Atlanta, Utah and Texas visited the Wanyjok, Aweil in the Bahr el Ghazal State in Southern Sudan. They were a few miles away from Darfur.... During their visit they provided mass deworming for 2000 patients including albendazole, praziquantel, multivitamin and distributed 250 bednets. In addition, they treated multiple cases of malaria. Most of them laboratory confirmed, other only presumptively diagnosed. But this is not enough, oh no, this is not enough!
Dr. Franco-Paredes visited Southern Sudan in 2007 The Student leaders from the Galloway School collected US500.00 in their fundraising campaign "Change the World". A portion of these funds were allocated to the Emory Southern Sudan Project led by Dr. Carlos Franco. The Galloway- MFI partnership provided Dr. Franco and his team of experts from Emory University with sufficient funds to provide medical relief to the villagers of Yei, Southern Sudan. The following are the specific details of the medical team relief mission.
The Emory Southern Sudan Project's long-term goals in these communities of Southern Sudan is to promote community-based programs that will hopefully contribute to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in this African Region.
