About the malaria life cycle

The following life cycles of the Plasmodium parasite have been selected:

  •  A detailed life cycle of Plasmodium is presented in the Malaria Section of the CDC's website depicts the parasite development in the mosquito, and in the human host. Also, it describes the stages at which the parasite becomes infective and when it can be detected in the host.

  • An animated version of the life cycle of Plasmodium falciparum is available at the WHO/TDR website.

  • The WHO Regional office in South-East Asia (SEARO) site provides the life cycle of the two most prevalent human malaria parasites: P. falciparum and P. vivax.
