What is SLAM?

Student Leaders Against Malaria (SLAM) is an educational program designed to engage students in both understanding and fighting malaria.  SLAM’s mission is to build a global network of student leader partnerships with the slogan “Kids Advocating for Kids”.

The SLAM project promotes malaria awareness, education and advocacy efforts among children, and helps to broaden their horizons.  In malaria endemic regions, generally the poorer regions of the world, this project builds special relationships and opportunities for children, beyond their imaginations.  Meanwhile, children from countries without malaria become sensitive to the devastation caused by this disease; and friendships are born that can last a lifetime.

With support from partnering organizations and donations, this network can grow rapidly.  A coordinator is necessary to expand the program.  SLAM aims to develop global citizens, with a heightened knowledge of their world.

View a recent SLAM poster , with examples of the programs goals and objectives.  As exemplified by SLAM pilot projects, actual SLAM goals and objectives can be tailored for different age groups and they are very much inspired by the creativity of specific groups of students and their SLAM mentors.
